FRAY LUIS DE LEON: Bilingualism

Five  years ago, we started with a new and interesting project: bilingualism .

The basis of this new project is that content subjects are taught and learnt in a language which is not the mother tongue of the learners (english). English is the vehicle of every communicative practise.

Language is being seen in real life situations, by means of games, songs, drama techniques, and visual aids.

Our students learnt the whole ‘junta de castilla y leon’ curriculum and they began to understand english language as if spanish one could be. And….. they had fun.

Using the english language as a vehicle one, has increased their motivation. Now they can use it to fulfil a real purpose, which has made them both more independent and confident.

Besides, after taking different pieces of information from other sources, has also helped them to develop very valuable thinking skills that have transferred to other subjects.

All these advantages have been developed little by little , and we hope the experience may enrich our community for many years.
